Finnikin and his father were trapped in the  prison for several weeks and the were getting moved to work in the mines and thats when they put their plan into action. First they had to make friends with the other prisoners and after a diversion they took out the guards and climbed to the top of a hill and ran to a old house were they meet up with Sir Topher and Evanjalin. They also ran into the thief from Sarnak and they saw that he was being tortured so they helped him and took him as member of their group. After that they took a boat down the Yack river but were ambushed by the native peoples called "Yuts". Finnikin was fighting bravely but an arrow shot him in the side and made him fall into the river. His father jumped in and pulled him out. They had to abandon the boat because it was taken by the Yuts and now they are surrounded and have no escape.
