The book paint the wind was written by Pam Munoz Ryan. in this part of the book, Maya goes away with her uncle fig and Moose to a place she hadn't been before, she met new people, like her aunt Vi (Violet) and Payton. the camp she went to was not like summer camps. it was a family camping trip kind of thing.at the camp. there were tepees, Maya got her own . there was also a kitchen tepee, and a river nearby. Mayas mom died while back, aunt Vi told Maya about Artemisia, Mayas moms horse. later they sat around a  camp fire and aunt Vi sang her mothers favorite song. days later, Maya was very happy. she had found her mothers run-away horse, Artemisia. Maya was walking the horse back to the camp when an earthquake struck. Maya fell to the ground, the horse was buried in logs. in pain, Maya saved the horse. blood dripping down the jacket and shirt all her clothes are ripped, torn. Maya was back alone at the camp. aunt vi and Payton were gone so were fig and Moose. when everyone got back. Maya found herself at the ranch in a bed. Healing.
