In the book Warp Speed by Lisa Yee, the main character Marley Sandelski, feels like he is invisible because none of the popular kids talk to him, and he is picked on. A new kid joins the school district, "his" name is Max, Marley along with Marley's friends, become friends together, they make the mistake of calling Max a boy and Max gets all emotional. Marley and his friends are upset that Max is no longer their friend. But one thing Marley and his friends enjoy is AV club. They believe they rule the school, then things go even more downhill for him. The AV club teacher, Mr. Jiang's appendix ruptures and they have to do technical sciences which they hate. Max eventuality forgives Marley and his friends for calling her a boy after confusion. Then in Technical Sciences things become even better, for Marley at least. A girl Marley thinks is pretty, Emily, asked if he would like to be partners with her. Of course Marley accepts and now Marley is unsure of being a real life module for a gown for Emily or not.
