BUSINESS is where it's at....

Please allow me to introduce myself.  My name is Sandra Deiseroth, and I'm proud to be the newest member of the Business Department here at Horseheads High School.

Business Education is a specialty area that is vitally important to each and every high school student.  No matter your goals, whether they are to enter the workforce immediately following high school, to attend a trade or vocational school, or to pursue a degree in higher education, computer proficiency is expected, and specifically with the use of Microsoft Office Suite.  Computer Applications, followed by Career & Financial Management are essential for any student.

How do you know what you want to do for the rest of your life?  How do you make that monumental career choice and begin down a path toward that goal?  In Career Pathways, we take you through the detailed steps of figuring out what your'e good at, what you value, and what career path(s) would be most beneficial for you to pursue as an individual.  Then we double check that decision with multiple field experiences.  The Commissioner of Education, Richard P. Mills, commented in his April 2006 Report to the NYS Board of Regents that "students need jobs and internships while in school to learn and practice what the modern, high skill workplace expects."  He said dropout rates will improve by expanding Career & Technical Education, under which Business Education falls.

Financial literacy is another area of critical importance to our youth.  Did you know that more students have to drop out of college due to credit card debt that to academic failure?  The Jumpstart Coalition has cited that financial education is paramount to students succeeding in their lives beyond high school.  That's why the Business Department at Horseheads is committed to bringing our students the financial knowledge they need to reach their career and personal financial goals.

For any student wishing to pursue any type of Business degree at an accredited college or university (Business degrees account for more than 80% of all degrees earned today), Accounting, Marketing, Business Law and College Computer Concepts will provide the sound basic business knowledge that Mr. Trump states high school students need to be prepared for to pursue a Business degree in higher education and/or a career in Business.

We will continue to integrate the latest high tech skills and knowledge necessary for our students' success in the today's workplace.  As you can see, BUSINESS IS where it's at!
