Hi!
Our first conferences are currently under way. This is the perfect time to make sure we are all on track and working together to make positive things happen. Please remember that as 5th Grade students, there will be homework every day except Friday. On occasion, there will also be Friday homework. Students have a homework planner in which they write their assignments in every day. There is also a place for you, parents, to communicate with me and me you. Every weekday we have Math homework and 20 minutes of reading. In addition to that, there will be 3 Spelling assignments, (Please look for the choice menu for spelling in the resources section.) In addition, there may be Writing, Social Studies, or Science. Parents, please check with your child each day to see if they have completed their work. From past experience, I have found that when parents check homework and ask for corrections to be made, the child is more successful with the work.
For Math, I have created booklets, so that the lesson notes for what we do in class are right there for you to look at when you get home to start your homework. It is very important that your child make all corrections when I go over the work in class. We have also been working on how to ask "Growth Mindset" types of questions. These kinds of questions always start with what they do know and then we get to what they don't understand. Perseverance is key! Also, if your child's notes aren't crystal clear or you would like to know more, you can always go to https://www.engageny.org/resource/grade-5-mathematics (the state education website) to find the problem set we did in class today. The homework is almost exactly the same as the problem set! Let's continue moving forward to make it a successful year!
