Homework Policy Your child will have homework Monday thru Thursday. In September we will slowly start out with a project for the 1st three days. The first full week your child will have math and a project. By the second week your child will have math and word work, which will continue until October.
In October until the rest of the school year your child will complete three assignments: math, word work, and book in a bag with a response sheet.
I realize that this is a big change from Kindergarten. It also may seem like a lot in the beginning. As the year goes on your child will become more independent with their homework. I expect that your child will do the work on their own, but have you there to guide them if they need help. Giving your child the answers to their homework because you want it done quicker will not benefit them in the long run. If your child is struggling with homework please contact me so that we can develop a plan to help them succeed.
I expect the homework to be neat and due back each day. There homework will be nightly assignments not weekly.If homework is not received the next day then they will be expected to do it during recess. If you contact me with a reason of why the homework was not handed in then I will excuse it. Just please don't make it a habit.
Homework is for extra practice. It is also a good way for you to see what your child is learning and to see their understanding. All year we will work together as a team to help your child succeed in 1st grade!!
