Second Grade Water Safety and Swim Instruction Opportunity

Attention Second Graders, Parents and Guardians,

Budget cuts have been difficult for the swimming opportunities for the Elementary students. The Third grade swim program is not back into the program at this time.  I am hopeful that an Elementary program will eventually return.
I currently teach all of the Pre-K Physical Education classes in the District. The Pre-K students will be having a few swim lessons with lifejackets on.  Your student may have had this opportunity.
My goal is to continue to spread the love of water for fun and fitness SAFELY.

Your second grade student may participate in a voluntary Water Safety and Swim Lesson opportunity outside of the school day.  I am excited for it.

It will require Parents and Guardians to transport their student, sign a release, be responsible for them when they are not in the lesson and observe from the bleachers.  There are no drop offs.  An adult must stay with and be responsible for your student.

If your student requires any adaptations, or special needs it is your responsibility to provide it.  If they need one on one assistance dressing or swimming you or someone extra you hire will have to dress your student (in a private bathroom) and get in the water with them.  You must also get a medical note for them to swim and contact me with pertinent information.  I will not have extra staff to dress or provide one on one instruction in this setting.

The students will have a Water Safety lesson at the Elementary school.  After the presentation the students will bring home a note with times and dates. The two sessions will consist of a 40 minute water safety and swim lesson and a 10 minute free swim.  Any unacceptable behavior will result in a 5 minute time out on the bench.  Repeated behavior will constitute removal.  I am volunteering my time.

The opportunities will be two Sundays between 1- 5 pm.  Each student will have a scheduled time according to their teachers name.  The teachers will not be there.
The students will be evaluated and grouped by skill level.  The lessons will be a fun game of swim skill instruction, copy cat and practice.
The District is supporting the opportunity by assisting with the cost of lifeguards and facility use.  Thank you to the Administration and PFO.
The students will not be charged for the lessons.  If a parent or guardian chooses to give a donation that would be accepted but not required.

I hope you can bring your student. If you have questions or comments please e-mail me.
                                                                                         Thank you,  Lynn Bailey
