Rewards: Students will also have positive behavioral support. Students who maintain appropriate behavior throughout the day and/or students caught being a model student may earn privileges or recognition. They may earn free time during study hall such as computer time or another activity of choice. Students may also have their parent notified by phone or e-mail about their exceptional behavior.

Class Procedures

Homework: Students will typically have some homework. Students will have weekly spelling words with four nights of assigned homework. Spelling test are on Friday. Student also have independent reading books and should be reading for about 20 minutes everyday independently. Students will be expected to read atleast one book a month on their own. Most of the time, students are able to complete homework during their support study hall but not always.

Homework for inclusive 7th/8th grade classes and electives will vary depending upon the core or special area teacher.

  • Parental support is greatly appreciated to encourage your child to take responsibility and pride in their homework. Students would benefit from having their own planner/folder with their assignments recorded. That way you can check your student's planner/folder nightly to be sure your child has completed their homework. Having a planner/folder is highly recommended so that important information gets home. You may also want to check the school website and calendar regularly for events and special information. This system will promote responsibility, completion of assignments and organizational skills.

Assessment: Students will be assessed for progress in a variety of ways. For 12:1 Self contained ELA their will be tests for spelling, skills, and reading comprehension. Rubrics will also be used for writing assigments and projects. For 12:1 Self contained Social Studies their will be end of chapter quizes and end of unit S.S. tests. Along with testing many other assessments tools will be used for grading and tracking progress. Students will be assessed through curriculum based assessments, rubrics, oral interviews/conferencing, recorded observation, projects, activities, writing portfolios.
