Homework Policy
                       HENDY 6thGRADE HOMEWORK POLICY
                                                 2012-2013

Why do we assign homework?
We believe that homework is a valuable aid in helping students to make the most of their experience in school. We give homework because it reinforces what has been taught in class, prepares students for upcoming lessons, and helps students develop self-discipline, responsibility and organizational skills.

When will homework be assigned?
Homework will be assigned on a daily basis throughout the school year.

Tests:
Tests/quizzes will be given periodically. Adequate notice will be given for all tests.   Some teachers may require tests to be signed by a parent or guardian.

Student’s homework responsibilities:
·        Homework assignments will be written in the same spot each day and students will be expected to copy all assignments into their agenda.
·        All assignments are to be completed and turned in on time.
·        If absent, students are responsible for getting missed assignments and making them up as soon as possible. Students are encouraged to call a classmate or homework buddy.

If students choose not to do their homework, the following corrective actions may occur:
·        Students may be required to complete homework during lunch (lunch
               detention) or after school.
·        25 points will be deducted each day for a LATE assignment.
·        Parents will be asked to check completed homework each night and sign their child’s agenda.
·        Parents will be contacted to schedule a meeting with the classroom teacher.

Parent’s homework responsibilities:
Parents are the key to making homework a positive experience for their children. Therefore, we ask you to make homework a top priority, provide necessary supplies and a quiet homework environment, provide praise and support, and contact us if you notice a problem or have concerns.

Teacher’s homework responsibilities:
We will check all homework and keep a record of assignments completed, late, and not completed. Because we strongly believe in the value supportive feedback plays in motivating students to develop good study habits, we recognize students with a variety of incentives when they do their homework—i.e.**Can you Spell H-O-M-E-W-O-R-Kincentive. Extra Credit assignments are often given for students to challenge themselves.

We are looking forward to enjoying an exciting, productive school year. Please do not hesitate to call us if you have any questions regarding this homework policy and or any other matter.
