Parent-Teacher Conferences
Parent -Teacher Conferences are held twiceyearly (December and March) and corresponds to
the marking periods of the Elmira City School
District Elementary Progress Report. Parents are
invited to sit with their child's teacher to look at
the report and see how the student is progressing.
The teacher will go over the formal report and
also show the parent significant work done by the
student that demonstrates their progress. Most
likely a parent would see work samples of mathematics
with a strong emphasis on math reasoning skills
and mathematical writing, creative writing samples,
research projects, and extended tasks that integrate
curriculum areas.
Students beginning in grade two are invited to sit
in on the conference or a part of it. They are
often asked to share with their parents a self-
evaluation of how they are doing in school.
Students are very insightful in recognizing
their strengths and weaknesses and add
a wonderful dimension to the comference.
Parents are encouraged to offer their perspectives
on their child's progress, learning styles or study
habits. Parents should feel free to ask questions
at any time if they are not completely sure of
the information that is being shared. Parents
and teachers have one thing in common and that
is the desired success of the student. Working
together helps to ensure that students will
achieve success.
