Rules and Expectations

I am a firm believer that students need rules and structure. I generally have a very smooth-running classroom, and I believe that this is because we are all a family in our classroom. In order to create this positive working environment, all students in our class are expected to follow the following rules and expectations. Thank you for your support!

Classroom Discipline Plan

As I firmly believe that lifelong success depends on self-discipline, I have developed a classroom discipline plan that gives every student the opportunity to manage his or her own behavior and make positive choices. I will discuss this plan with the students, but I would appreciate it if you would review the plan with your child as well. Working together, all of us can ensure that your child will receive the most positive educational climate possible. Throughout the year I will keep in touch with you through written notes and phone calls regarding your child’s behavior. Please keep me updated with your most current phone number so that I can keep in contact with you when needed. I believe that communication between myself and my students’ families is an important piece of creating the most successful school year for the students. The following rules are expected to be followed by all students to make our classroom an enjoyable environment.

Classroom Rules:
1.      Follow directions.
2.      Follow the “Golden Rule.”
3.      Work quietly.
4.      Be a good listener.
5.      Try your best!

If a student chooses to break a rule, there will be consequences. The consequence will depend on the specific behavior, and may include loss of privileges, note/phone call home, parent/school meeting, writing a behavior plan, and/or student meeting with the principal. I will write about behavior problems on your child’s daily homework sheet under the “teacher comments” section. There will also be rewards for positive behavior.

REWARDS

Although not all positive behavior is rewarded, I do enjoy letting students know how much their good behavior is appreciated. I do this through the use of Friday Free Time and other small prizes during the week. Students who have all of their work completed for the week and have not made poor choices during the week will have Friday Movie Time! Good behavior choices can also result in receiving awards at Town Meetings, and/or Character Coupons.
