Welcome to Mrs. Black's 5th Grade Classroom at Erwin Valley

This is my thirty-fourth year of teaching and I still enjoy the excitement of beginning another new year!  This is my sixth year teaching at Erwin Valley and love the building, teachers, parents and students I interact with every day. 
My hope is that this website will help students and parents  with some general information throughout the year to answer any questions, provide schedules as well as give resources that you may find useful .
 Fifth grade is a change from previous years.  Students are successful when they pay attention, use their time wisely and keep up with their classwork and homework.  We have 6 subjects each day which involves classwork and homework. Homework is usually Monday through Thursday.  I expect kids to read 7 days a week for a minimum of 20 minutes each day ( this is not part of the 50 minutes of nightly homework) .
