In the book The Vampire Diaries The Awakening and the Struggle Elena Gilbert makes it her mission to go out with Stefan Salvatore. Elena's friends help her, they set up a plan so that Elena and Stefan would bump into each other in the hallway and get to know each other. Stefan and Elena eventualy start dating. Elena finds out that Stefan is hiding something from her and she want to find out what it is. When Elena finds out Stefan is a vampire she is scared of him but Stefan makes her feel ok with it and makes Her promise not to tell anyone. Elena and Stefan are very happy together. Elena has noticed that that there was a Black crow that she saw were ever she went. A few months later Stefan's brother showed up in town. Stefan was mad that Damon Salvatore for showing up even though they are brothers.
