| 3 | First Day: 8th Grade
Welcome! Students will receive a brief informational for themselves and their families. The signed portion of the letter must be returned by Wednesday, September 10th. |
| 9 | STEM: Save Fred
Today, students received their STEM notebooks. We had a class discussion of what it means to be a scientist. Students participated in the "Save Fred" problem solve design activity.
All students are to finish their descriptions, flowcharts, and questions 1 and 2 on the page following the "Save Fred" instructions as HW. |
| 10 | Parent Letters Returned
Parent letters that were distributed on 9/5/14 should be returned. A copy of the letter is available on the website. |
| 15 | HW: Observation and Inference (In STEM Notebook 1)

| 16 | Beginning Mass
Students will use a computer website to review proper use of the triple beam balance. STEM notebook #2 was distributed today. |
| 18 | Gummy Bear Mass Challenge
Students will be given a triple beam balance and materials to calculate how many gummy bears have been placed in a sealed plastic bag. |
| 19 | Binder Check
Students will need to bring their science binders for a check to make sure they have STEM notebooks 1 and 2. |
