18 | NYS Proficiency Exam All 8th grade LOTE (foreign Language) students will need to report to school at the usual morning time on Monday, June 18. Buses will be running in the morning. The test will last approximately 2 hours.
The NYS proficiency exam is mandatory. There are no "make-ups". Eighth grade Spanish students will be completing listening and reading portions of the exam. Passing this exam with a 65 or higher will grant students one year of high school credit in a foreign language, which is necessary for high school graduation. (Note: Students may also receive this credit by earning a 65 or higher for their final grade of the year. Also, all students will continue with their foreign language study through their freshman year in High School, whether attaining this one year credit or not.)
This NYS exam is also one of the two possible exams that may be counted as the Final Exam for Spanish class at CFA.. A portfolio of 4 assessments that have been taken during the course of the year, may also be used as the Final Exam. The instructor will use whichever Final Exam is the higher grade for the final grade average (4 quarter grades and the final exam: 5 x 20% = 100%)
