Events for June 2015

DateEvent
8Week before final exam
Students will be graded on their reading of a small written piece of Spanish.  Grades will be based on Pronunciation, expression, and volume.  In addition, students will begin a new unit entitled "Environment."  This unit will be continued as their first unit next year in high school.

PLEASE NOTE:
Parents and guardians:
Spanish students are nearing the end of their foreign language study for this year.  All these students will be taking a final exam in Spanish, and this final exam will determine two things.  First, the final exam grade will count as ten percent of their overall grade for the year.  Second, (and perhaps of greater consequence) passing the final exam with a 65 or higher will grant the student high school credit, and fulfills a requirement for high school graduation.

The final exam measures a determined level of Spanish grammar and vocabulary, through speaking, listening, reading, and writing.  The NYSED (New York State Education Department) has "Checkpoint A" guidelines that help define this level of ability, or proficiency, in a foreign language.

The Final Exam will be administered over two days on June 15 and June 18.  The first day will be answering questions on what they read in Spanish and then they will also write at least 30 words in Spanish on one of two given topics.
The second day will be the listening section.  I will speak Spanish and students will select an answer to a question based on what they have heard.

Students should study be reviewing notes from all 3 years of Spanish.  Study websites are readily available online.  Please feel free to write or call me with any questions.
