What is a School Social Worker?

A School Social Worker is a trained professional who helps students maximize their success in school. They work with students who might be experiencing social/emotional, academic or behavioral issues. School Social Workers work together with students, teachers, other school faculty and families to develop and implement strategies that will enhance students' school success.

Some of the services provided by School Social Workers are: individual and group counseling, crisis intervention, behavioral interventions and assessments, referrals to community agencies, and consultation with school faculty and families. We also work to develop and implement school wide programs that facilitate safe and healthy school environments.
