             T. I. G. E. R. BINDER Listed below are the sections you will find in the binder. It is very important that your child learns to bring the binder to school every day.Inside the binder is a pencil case. Use this case to send in lunch money, book orders, money for field trips, notes for the teacher, extra pencils, etc. Please put any money in an envelope with their name on it. Your child will be expected to check it everyday and place the envelope in a basket on my desk. This calender will have a schedule of the daily "special" for our class. It will also have important dates of special events at our school, birthdays, vacation days, and reminders of things they need to bring to school (more pencils, erasers, etc.). Please help your child learn to check it each morning so they can learn to be prepared for the day. Each week you will find the new "WORDS OF THE WEEK" inside a plastic sleeve. Please leave them in the sleeve. You and your child will always know where they are when you are ready to study them each night. An additional spelling list will be attached to the homework each week in case you like to post in on the refrigerator at home. The other side of the plastic sleeve will hold the monthly lunch menu. Please check it daily and help your child pre-decide what they will buy for lunch. In an effort to help your child develop the new skills of responsibility and organization, I am offering them an incentive. Each of my first graders can earn a daily sticker for each day they come to school ready. "Ready" means; they have given me notes you have written, they have handed in the money you sent, they have an empty pocket folder, they are ready for the "special" of the day (sneakers for Phys. Ed., library book for Library day), and they have the supplies they need for school.

 Parent/Teacher Communication

There is a notepad tucked inside the front cover of the binder. This will be for notes you may want to send me. You may keep the notepad at home and use it when needed. If you write a message, please put it in the zip pouch. Your child will be expected to check the pouch every morning. It will be their responsibility to take out the note from you and hand it to me.

Pocket Folders

One side of the folder will hold the SUPER WORK that your child has completed in school. Your child should learn to remove the papers daily and show you what they are learning. Keep these papers at home. The other side will hold communications for you from school, i.e., notes from me, the principal’s monthly newsletter, PTA notices, sports sign-up, etc. Your child will be responsible for making sure all papers have been looked at by a parent. (They may need a gentle reminder from you as they are learning this new responsibility.)

Monthly T.I.G.E.R. Treat Chart

Each morning I will check their binder to make sure they are "ready" for the day. If they are, I will place a sticker on their T.I.G.E.R. Treat Chart. At the end of each month the stickers will be added up (there will be a specific number of stickers necessary for a treat) and a T.I.G.E.R. treat will be passed out to the children who showed they are learning to be organized and responsible.

Together we can help our young learners have a wonderful and successful first grade year. Let’s help them be proud to say:

"TODAY I’VE GOT EVERYTHING READY!"
