What is a School Social Worker?

School Social Workers are trained mental health professionals who help students to maximize their success in school. They work with students who might be coping with social/emotional, academic, and/or behavioral issues. School Social Workers work together with students, teachers, other school staff/faculty and families to develop and implement strategies that will enhance school success.

Some of the services that School Social Sorkers provide are: individual and group counseling, crisis intervention, behavioral assessments and interventions, referrals to community agencies, and consultation with school faculty and families. We also help develop and implement school-wide programs that facilitate safe and healthy school environments.
