Philosophy of Athletics
Newfield Central School- Philosophy of Interscholastic Athletics
At Newfield, interscholastic athletics will be an integral part of the district’s total educational program. As an extension of the regular physical education program, interscholastic athletics provides the student with the opportunity to participate in a supervised, competitive setting.

The goals and objectives of the Newfield Central athletic and interscholastic athletic programs should reflect those accepted goals and objectives of the total educational program. A competitive athletic situation allows the student-athlete to learn not only the skills of each sport, but also, the skills required to react to different behaviors of people in various situations. These competitive experiences allow the athlete to learn more about himself/herself, and to work with others in achieving a common goal. Athletics, in general, provides the student-athlete the opportunity to learn teamwork, sportsmanship, and self-confidence; attributes that are essential to life-long success.

The Newfield Central athletic program will strive for individual and team excellence. We will not advocate a win-at-all-cost approach, but do realize the importance of winning to the participants and coaches. If the goals of the program are to be achieved, our teams must be competitive at all levels, with emphasis on participation at the modified levels, and emphasis on competitiveness at the junior varsity and varsity levels.
