Our Day in Room 5!

7:50 - 8:20 - School Begins.  Backpacks go in cubbies, folders are turned in, students head down to breakfast/sign in/morning work, including math, reading, science, and social studies skills.

8:20 - 8:40 - Morning meeting.  Students meet on the carpet for calendar time, stories, songs, letter and sight word of the week, and many cross-curricular activities!

8:40 - 9:00 - Whole group reading instruction. 

9:00 - 10:00 - Small group reading instruction/learning centers.

10:00 - Bathroom

10:10 - 10:40 - Special (includes Physical Education, Music, and Library.)

10:40 - Bathroom/wash hands for lunch.

10:50 - 11:20 - Lunch

11:25 - 11:45 - Additional reading instruction.  This will be a more relaxed instruction time of a read aloud story, story-related craft, class retelling, etc. 

11:45 - 12:45 - Math instruction.

12:45 - 1:00 - Science and Social Studies instruction

(please note that science and social studies are covered extensively through reading instruction. Many of the science and social studies topics are explored during our ELA time through stories and other activities.)

1:00 - 1:15 - Choice time/Social learning and exploration.

1:20 - 1:50 - Recess (almost always outside unless unsafe due to extreme cold or rain.)

1:50 - 2:00 - Prepare for dismissal.

2:00 - Dismissal for all students.

On Tuesday and Thursdays, some children will stay for extra support after school.  This additional instruction will be from 2:00 - 3:00.  Students attending this instruction will be dismissed at 3:00 only on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  If your child qualifies for this support you will recieve a letter of permission to sign and return to school.
