STAR Student of the Week

“Star of the Week”!  While your child is the “Star”, each day will consist of an exciting event or activity to honor him or her.  This will also help us get to know our classmates a little better!

MONDAY:  “Sharing Sack Day!”  A sack will be sent home over the weekend for your “star student” to use as the “sharing sack”.  Please help your child collect special items from home that tells us a little bit about them.  Encourage your child to choose items that have some sort of special meaning rather than a collection of toys.  Our “Student of the Week” display holds several pictures.  If possible, send in a collection of pictures to display for the class.  The pictures will be returned at the end of the week unharmed.

TUESDAY:  “”Favorite Book Day!”  Your “star student” gets to bring one of his or her favorite pieces of literature to read to the class or to have the teacher read to the class during our read aloud time.

WEDNESDAY:  “Parent Letter Day!”  Parents, you will write a letter to the class telling us some tidbits about your child and why they are special.  Send the letter in a sealed envelope to school with your “star student”.  I will share your letter with the class during our read aloud time.  The content of the letter is up to you, but you may want to choose from some of the following ideas:  describe a funny or special story about your child, tell us some neat tidbits about your child that we might not know about, tell us about a family vacation or memorable events, or send silly or special pictures to share with a brief description about them.

THURSDAY:  “Lunch Buddy Day!”  If possible, please join your child in the classroom for a special lunch on this day.  You may also have a favorite relative join you and your “star student”.  You can have the identity of the lunch buddy be a surprise or let your child know ahead of time. You will need to let me know who is coming in so I can notify the office. You can pack a lunch, or order a cafeteria lunch (I will need to know that morning what you would like to order) to enjoy with your child.  Our lunch time is 10:45-11:20am.

FRIDAY:  “Star Friends Day!”  On this day, your “star student” will be presented with a friendship poster created by his or her classmates.  The poster will include the Star’s picture surrounded by compliments and autographs written by their first grade friends.  This is a keepsake!

*Special Note:  The events planned for Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday can be switched around in order to accommodate your schedule if Thursday is NOT a good day to be a lunch buddy with your “star student”.  If you need me to switch the days around, please let me know by making the changes below and returning this paper to school ASAP so that I can plan this exciting week for your child.

Write the day of the week (Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday) next to the desired day.
