Dear Parent,

Summer is upon us. I hope you and your family enjoy some extra special time together. As you plan various events and activities, I encourage you to look for ways to help your child maintain academic skills. Some suggestions include:

1. reading together every day.

2. getting a library card and using it.

3. having a variety of reading materials at home.

4. buying books, magazine subscriptions, etc. as gifts. (They also make great rewards for a job well done!)

5. playing word games, listening games, or board games together.

6. listening to your child share the day’s activities and asking questions to elicit details.

7. taking your child on trips to expose him/her to different experiences.

8. encouraging your child to write letters or postcards to family members and friends.

9. encouraging your child to keep a journal.

10. practicing math facts/number families with your child. The use of dice, spinners, or playing cards adds an extra "fun factor".

11. assigning specific responsibilities to your child. Recognize his/her efforts. Let you child know how much his/her contributions mean to you.

Thank you for your time, energy, and support!
Thank you for the precious gift of your child!
