Financial Requests
Ski Club – Joyce Frank requested funding to help with the cost of bus transportation for the Newfield Ski Club. The PTA approved donating $500. Sunshine Miller will look into a field trip grant from Target that may be applicable to the Ski Club.
Elementary School Play – The PTA approved donating $800 towards production of the Elementary School Play – The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.
CPR Course – The PTA approved donating $25 for a CPR mask for a CPR program taught by Tammy Wilcox.
Karate – Joyce Frank spoke about an introductory Karate Program that would be offered for K-5th graders from 2-3pm two days a week for a 10 week session in the fall and another 10 week session in the Spring.
Violin – Sunshine Miller spoke about the violin program, which will be offered this year for K-3rd graders from 2-3pm two days a week throughout the year.
Art – The possibility of art enrichment was discussed. Volunteers would be needed to coordinate and supervise activities.
Garden Club – The possibility of having a garden club was discussed. One of the areas the garden club would work on would be the
Newfield Public Library – The possibility of having some sort of enrichment in conjunction with the Newfield Public Library was brought up.
Open House – PTA will be sponsoring an ice-cream social at Elementary Open House on September 18th.
Meeting Date Change – During basketball season, the PTA voted to change the meeting dates to Wednesdays instead of Tuesdays. This will affect the meeting dates for December, January and February.
Yearbook – The possibility of helping the High School Yearbook Club with expenses in order to get a better quality book was suggested.
School Supplies – The possibility of helping families purchase school supplies was discussed.
Sports Uniforms – The poor quality of modified sports uniforms was discussed.
Newfield Public Library – The library will be sponsoring a Haunted Gingerbread Contest, a Horror Movie Night and a Pumpkin Carving Demonstration.

Appreciation Week - The list of prize winners from the Staff/Teacher Appreciation Week luncheon were passed around. The PTA would like to thank all of the parents for the delicious food and prize donations and the business establishments for prize donations. It was truly a wonderful week for all!

Cherrydale Fundraiser - We will be using the Cherrydale company for our Fall 2008 Fundraiser. Jim Van Duren from Cherrydale gave an overview of the program and brought samples to share with us. The tentative fundraiser dates are 9/19/08 thought 10/10/08. The PTA will receive 50% of all proceeds. Congratulations to Michelle Artibee for winning a chocolate Cherrydale prize basket!
New PTA Website - The PTA is launching a new web-site. The site will include meeting minutes, photos, updates, event information and lots more. A big thank you to Michelle Artibee for putting the site together!

Financial Requests
National Junior Honor Society - Betsy Edwards requested help in funding the Spring 2008 Day Trip and Spring 2009 Overnight Trip for the National Honor Society. The requested amount was not specified. PTA will request a dollar amount of what is needed and make a decision at a later date.
Newfield Health Fair - Dave Green requested $400 for the Newfield Health Fair that will take place this Spring. The money goes towards lunch and t-shirts for the volunteers. The PTA unanimously approved the request.
Barnes and Noble Fundraiser
The date for the Barnes and Noble fundraiser will be March 15, 2008. Sunny will make and distribute a flyer to send home with kids. Entertainment is being finalized for 11am and 2pm. Potential entertainers include: Elementary School Chorus, Drum Line, Brass Quintet and/or actors from the case of High School Musical. The Cat in the Hat will also be at the store at 11am.
The 9th grade ELA class will be taking a trip to Barnes and Noble on January 29, 2008. Missy will see if we can do a fundraiser on that day as well.
Spring Fundraiser - Gertrude Hawke
The Gertrude Hawke fundraising flyers have arrived. We will be selling February 1 through February 25, 2008. Tally night will be February 28, 2008 at 3:30pm in the Weaver Conference Room. Products should be back before Easter.
Enrichment - Scrapbooking - Larissa and Tina Hery will be planning dates for this event to occur.
Other Business
Recreation Partnership Clarification - In response to the recent article in the Newfield News, Newfield no longer belongs to the Ithaca Recreation Partnership
Staff/Teacher Appreciation Day - The date for the appreciation luncheon is May 7, 2008.
