History of the Americas Year 1

Course Overview

The IB History of the Americas Year I is a year round couse broken up in focus by semesters. The first semester is an overview of United States History from the colonial period to the present day. The second semester of the year will be focused on three units that will prepare the students for the IB HoA Exam for Year II. Students in this class will be expected to take the New York State US History and Government Regents Exam and are allowed to take the AP US History Examination as well.

This class is designed to be a college level course, and will be rigerous in the pace, reading assignments, challenging in the content, and will require students to be excellent at time management, reading outside of school, watching lectures outside of school, and excellent writting skills. In addition to this, they are expected to participate in all classroom discussions, assignments, and use critical thinking skills to compare different interpretations of historical events to develop their viewpoint. 


AP Content

This course is not designed as an AP course, though the seat time and assessments will fulfill the requirements and preparation needed to take the AP US History Examination. For more information from the school district on the AP schedule for students and families click here.
