  COMMON CORE AND PHYSICAL EDUCATION:
Imbedding core subjects such as reading and writing has been
                   commonly practiced in physical education:

As an example, (during our swimming unit), one of the favorite
activities for students is swimming/searching for floating letters and putting
them into  sequential order A-Z (kindergarten, first grades), or searching for
letters to  form words, or short sentences for upper grade levels.
In the gym area, students at the elementary level make shapes and letters with
their bodies during warm up activities, and write journals.   At the upper
levels, students write essays, create/choreograph routines,  complete written
quizes, exams, or journals as a form of cognitive assessment.
