Hi! Thank you for visiting my site and spending time getting to know me! Here is some information about my background.
I grew up in Poughkeepsie, NY then went to Elmira College to earn my Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education. I decided to continue my education at EC and graduated with my Masters Degree in 2005 in Literacy Education. After finishing my education, I fulfilled a lifelong dream of mine to live by the beach and moved to Salisbury, Maryland (about 30 min. from Ocean City). I was hired at Ocean City Elementary School where I taught kindergarten. I spent 3 years at OCES and learned many valuable lessons that have helped shaped me into the teacher I am today.
In 2008, I decided to return to NY to be closer to family and friends. I was very lucky to get hired at Gardner Road teaching first grade. After three years of teaching at GR, I switched to sixth grade at the Intermediate school in 2011. Each grade level is so different, but I really feel that sixth grade is the best fit for me.
I decided I wanted to be a teacher when I was in fifth grade. I had a teacher named Mrs. Walker, and she had a special connection with each of her students. She had a huge impact on my life and I decided I wanted to have the same impact on students as she had on me. I take great pride in my teaching and enjoy helping students to love learning. I build a community in the classroom where students feel comfortable to express themselves and everyone feels successful. I have loved my nine years of teaching, and I know this year will be just as awesome!
Although it might be a surprise to the students, I do have a life outside of school! I have a 5 year old beagle named Molly and a 6 year old cat named Zoe. I enjoy taking vacations to the beach during the summer, spending time with family and friends, reading, playing with my dog and relaxing.
