About Mrs. O'Connell

My name is Lisa O'Connell, and I grew up in Norwich, NY, I graduated from Norwich Senior High School (Go Purple Tornadoes!) and went on to college to earn a degree in Business Administration. My goal was to open my own childrens clothing store. I received an Associates Degree in Business Administration and began working in the sales field. It was then I decided sales was not for me. After coaching cheerleading for a couple of seasons I realized that teaching is what I wanted to do and I made a decision to quit my job and return to college to earn my degree in teaching. I attended Broome Community College and transferred to Elmira College, where I earned my Bachelor's Degree in Secondary English Education. Soon after graduation I began working as a long term substitute at Northside Blodgett Middle School in Corning, NY teaching seventh grade English. The next school year I began working as a permanent teacher at Horseheads Middle School where I taught seventh grade English. While teaching at the Middle School for six years, I earned my Masters Degree in Elementary Education and Literacy. I began working at the Intermediate School teaching sixth grade nine years ago teaching sixth grade. I am now the Reading Specialist for the building. . I am New York State certified in Secondary English Education, Elementary Education K - 6, Literacy and Students with Special Needs 1 - 6.

I live within the Horseheads district with my husband of 14 years. I have three boys, ages 13, 11, and 9. I also have a seven year old German Shepherd, a year old Jack-a-bee, and fish of various ages. For fun I enjoy spending time with my family, sports, spending time on the lake and photography.

I am looking forward to getting to know all of you better this school year.
