Dear Parents and/or Guardians of U.S. History Students,

Your high school student is currently enrolled in my United States History & Government Regents Class.  This course is a one semester course that will prepare your high school student to take the United States History & Government New York State Regent’s examination in June.  The successful completion of this course is a graduation requirement.

This course has been designed to meet and/or exceed the curriculum requirements designated by the New York State Board of Regents.  In our effort to meet higher education standards while providing students with an enriching U.S. History experience, this course is a fast-paced rigorous survey of U.S. history, government and culture.  The demanding curriculum will require daily reading and homework assignments.  Your support and encouragement to keep your high school student on track is greatly appreciated.

In an effort to foster communication between us, I have provided my students with a course syllabus, which I am asking parents/guardians to review with them.  I have also created a classroom web page that provides current assignment announcements, review materials and Internet links to websites that coincide with units in the classroom.  I encourage you to visit this site and register your e-mail address so that I may keep you informed of upcoming assignments and exams.

I encourage open communication between us as well and look forward to your feedback so that we can work as a team to provide your high school student with all the support necessary to successfully complete the United States History and Government curriculum.

I look forward to meeting your personally at Parent’s Night on Thursday February 20th from 7:00-8:30 PM at Horseheads High School.

Respectfully,
