Classroom Expectations
Classroom Expectations
Mrs. Owen – 8th Grade Science

1.   Be prepared for class. Please bring the following required materials to class each day:                                 textbook
pen and pencil to write with
                                    three ringed binder
                                    planner/agenda

  1. Be on time for class.  Class will begin when the bell rings. If you are late, without a pass, a detention will be given.

  1. I will be available for extra help and for detention. However, I will not be after school every day.  My official hours at school are from 9:45 am until 2:15 pm. I will let you know soon which days I will be available after school.

  1. It is your responsibility to make up all work that you miss while you are absent. If you know you are going to be absent or are leaving school early, please get your assignments ahead of time.

  1. Grading: All grades are based on 100%.
Tests are worth 50% of your overall average.
Quizzes are worth 30% of your overall average.
Homework and labs are worth 20% of your overall average.

  1. If homework is one day late, the grade will be reduced by 50%.
If homework is two days late, the grade will be a zero.
(Please note that zeros are very detrimental to your average).  ALL assignments must  be completed and handed in, even if they score a zero.
*This is a policy for all classes in 8th grade.

  1. I allow students to do corrections on failed tests and quizzes. A failing grade is below 65. You must do corrections in my presence (after school, during lunch, etc.). You may use your book or notes to make the corrections. When all of the wrong answers have been corrected (may take several times), I will give you a passing grade of 70.

  1. Last, but not least….. please be respectful of each other, the teacher and your school. This means, raise your hand when you would like to speak, take other people’s feelings into consideration, take care when using lab equipment, clean up any messes, etc.
