CARder Kids

 Dear Family,

          Students in grades 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 will be participating in a program called Accelerated Reader.  This program now encompasses over 100,000 titles!  AR includes quality books in a variety of genres and improves reading comprehension. 

          Students will enjoy both reading their books and working with the computer.  After reading a book, the student will take a comprehensive test on the computer.  A passing score will entitle the student to earn points.  These points will be based on the results of the test and the difficulty of the book.  Quizzes cannot be retaken nor can quizzes be accessed from home.  The program will track each student’s accumulated points, number of books read, titles of books completed, and the score of each test.  Students will periodically receive a printout of this information to take home.  In addition, students will be given a User ID and password which will allow parents to access their child’s Accelerated Reader information at home.  (Mrs. Hall sent home the letter at the beginnning of the school year so that you can view your child's results and/or get Emails every time your child takes a quiz)

          Goals for January and June have been established for each grade level.  Celebrations for goals reached will be in January, after the second marking period and in June, before the end of school.       We look forward to working with you as we encourage children to read quality books.
