Classroom Procedures

Procedures are a part of life. We follow procedures for using a telephone book, boarding an airplane, approaching a traffic light, and attending a wedding. The reason we have procedures in life is so that people can function in society knowing the acceptable and efficient ways other people do things.

The following procedures will be used in Mr. Schrage’s classes to ensure an efficient and smooth running class.

Entering the classroom:
When you (the student) enter the room you should immediately take your seats and do the following:
A.    Check to see if there is any homework – write this down in your assignment pad
B.    Set up your name tag
C.    Check to see if there is a sponge to complete or any other directions on the board or overhead

Hand signal:
When your attention is needed Mr. Schrage will simply raise his hand. When this happens you should do the following:
A.    Raise your hand (off the desk and above head)
B.    Stop any activities
C.    Let your neighbors know that they need to raise their hands – simply whisper the word “hands”
D.    Attention should be on the teacher
The entire class should be quiet and focused in less than 5 seconds!

Passing in papers:
When an assignment is to be collected all papers should be in alphabetical order – all papers should be going the same direction and should be in a nice neat pile! The goal is to see how fast papers can be handed in and still be in alphabetical order and all facing the same direction.

Bathroom:
You should use the bathroom before or after class. If it is an extreme emergency then you may be allowed to use the bathroom in the nurse’s office. You should not be out of the room for more than 3 minutes on a bathroom pass. In order to use the bathroom you must fill out the necessary information in the passbook (this is found in your assignment pad) and then have the teacher initial the passbook.

Leaving the room at the end of the period:
Please remember that students are dismissed by the teacher and not the bell. Cleanup begins 30 seconds before the bell rings if you are working on your own. Before leaving the room the following must occur:
A.    All desks straightened
B.    All trash picked up from the floor
C.    All chairs pushed in

If you finish an assignment early:
If you finish an assignment early please do one or more of the following:
1.     finish any late work
2.     study your vocabulary cards
3.     organize your notebook
4.     study for an upcoming test or quiz

When you are absent:
Please call the school and request to have your homework, books and notebooks sent to the office so that your parent or guardian can pick it up for you. For this class a student will fill out a form describing what happened in class and any homework to be completed. If you will not be in class because of a lesson it is your responsibility to get all assignments and have everything completed on time. When turning in assignments after they are due and you were legally absent the student MUST WRITE ABSENT on the paper.

Other points of information:

Recycling: Please remember to take the time to recycle all paper and reserve the trash can for wrappers and other non-recyclable items

Homework will be posted online on a monthly basis.
