Pre-K activities

Here are some suggested activities to help your child get ready for kindergarten:

1. Animal walks (crab, bear, dog snake, ect.)

2. Flashlight games- have your child draw shapes on the wall or ceiling of a dark room.

3. Draw with sidewalk chalk.  When your child is finished use water and a paint brush to "paint" over the top of your work.

4. Play Doh activities- Roll it into a snake, use 3 fingers (index, middle, and thumb) to roll it into small balls, flatten it out like a pancake, draw or trace shapes with your index finger, cut Doh with scissors.

5. Use tongs (toast pullers, tweezers, wooden tongs or strawberry hullers to pick up macaronni noodles, beads or play doh.

6. paint with an eye dropper.

7. String beads- onto pipe cleaners, ot shoe laces.

8. Lacing cards- use index cards and a holw punch to make your own design and lace with yarn.

9. Clothespin play- have your child help hang laundry on a clothes line, clip clothes pins to a curtain or blanket and have the child remove them.

10. Color pictures over different grades of sand paper.

11. Color pictures- (no fat crayons please), have your child color at a table, in standing or positioned on their stomach on the floor.

12. Draw shapes in the air, then on paper with crayons or pencils.

13. Cut a variety of textures- Plat Doh, tin foil, sponges, newspaper, construction paper, ect.

14. Trace shapes- use a highlighter to draw shapes, wavy lines, diagonal lines, ect. and have child try to stay on top of the lines.

15. Make simple mazes- have your child attepmt to complete maze without touching any black lines.

16. Play with games with pieces- Connect Four, Mancalla, Perfection, Lite Brite, Candyland, ect.
