Accelerated Reader is a program that we use at Hanlon to measure comprehension of a story as well as vocabulary retension.  We set goals for the children at the beginning of the year and if the goals are met, we celebrate in the classroom as well as school wide.  The goal is set based on their reading ability.  By using accelerated reader, children are motivated to learn and they are excited about reading!  We encourage the children to be reading books at their reading level and hope that they are able to accomplish a grade of 80% or higher throughout the marking period.
