Hello Parents and Guardians:
Tomorrow marks the end of the first marking period at the high school and some students are still needing to be reminded about daily completion of homework, organizational and study skills and project completion.

Your student should have a small amount of nightly homework in Global Studies. The only exception might be Fridays. While I try to not give much, it is important for them to complete and is never too time consuming. The homeworks are generally reviews and summaries of previously taught vocabulary and concepts with reading strategies built in. I teach these in class as well. I also remind them that if they need assistance, the textbook reads to them and also I am available as well as their academic support teacher.

Their notebook organized with table of contents was due today. Many students got extensions and need to complete that organization project tonight for homework. This should be done daily right along and is posted in the front of our room. It is important to stay organized as Global I and II has a great deal of information.

There will be a Quiz on Monday 9/23/13 as I told the students yesterday on the concepts we have been studying.
The classroom is organized with a calendar in front with reminders of all assignments and I give several days notice for tests and quizzes. There is also a notebook with numbered items for their handouts. The first major project including a short essay was due 9/19/13 and some students neglegted to complete it. Please check with your child. Thank you!

The students need to define / understand/ know:

technology
culture
archaeology
antropology
artifact
historian
prehistory
who the Leakys were
understand the term Homo erectus
label the continents
the five themes of geography
know the eight elements that make up culture

Hello Parents and/or Guardians:

It was such a pleasure to meet many of you at open house last week!  Despite the heat, we had a great turn out. As we enter into the second full week of school I would just wanted to send a few reminders:

1. A current event article from world news and written summary is due every Friday we have a full week of school. A bright yellow form is provided to follow with a map on back to indicate the region of the world the news is written about.  I have links on my district website. www.horseheadsdistrict.com >schools>high school>teacher sites.

2. Our first major project is due Thursday the 19th on Culture.  The students have watched short video clips, read examples from text and also have several guides in their binder we have gone over together in class, graphic organizers to use, and examples. We will also do a station activity of early civilizations and the discoveries made about their culture.

3. We use fill in the blank guided notes and visuals, integrated with short video clips and projects like webquests and research to learn but some short readings and questions will also be coming for homework. It is a Regents based course, ending in a Regents exam in June which is required to graduate and they must be prepared. My goal is to try and make the content as understandable as possible and approachable for your student while maintaining the rigor expected of us.

Please contact me with any concerns. Thank you for your support!
