Math Module 2 Information Page
Now that we have reviewed using base ten to understand an addition and subtraction algorithm, let's move into Common Core's Module 2.  We will continue to use the Base Ten Blocks and Place Value Disks in the module to help apply our understanding of base ten to convert units of metric measurement.  Please keep in mind that we ultimately want to be able to apply our understanding of base ten to the world around us. (Unfortunately there are very few videos out there on this topic at a 4th grade level, so I tried to compile the few that would be most beneficial)

Mathematical Concept Online Help Common Core Standards
Word Problems using a Bar Model (aka Tape Diagram) and the RDWW strategy we use in class:
ead the word problem & extract (underline) the information needed to solve the problem
Draw picture to represent the problem
Write a number sentence horizontally to represent your drawing
Write an explanation of your answer to check for reasonableness
This strategy is used throughout the
Common Core curriculum to solve word problems
Lessons 1-5: converting metric units of measure This strategy is used throughout all lessons within this module and can be modified to meet any metric unit .  4.MD.1
Lessons 3-5: Regrouping and simplifying to add or subtract Converting units to add or subtract This strategy can be used throughout the lessons as one way to regroup and simplify 4.MD.2
