Beginner Strings Night information

Greetings, Beginning String Family!

I would like to invite you to Beginner Strings Night before string lessons begin at school.  It will be held on Friday, September 5 in the Intermediate School Cafeteria

This meeting will be an introductory string lesson for students and parents on how to hold the instrument, and instrument care.   It is very important for you and your child to attend this introductory night.  Due to large lesson groups, the information learned at this meeting will be crucial to your child’s initial success and advancement.

It is necessary to have the rented or purchased instrument at this meeting (see enclosures).  (Students playing the CELLO who are not able to rent one will have an opportunity to be fitted for a loaner instrument and take it home; however, we have a limited number available).   See the Supply List for what to bring for Beginner Strings Night.

Mrs. Audrey Moss, who teaches MS/HS orchestras, will help me this evening, and we will be assisted by some of her students.  Representatives from our parent organization, String Parents Association of Horseheads (SPAH) will also be present to welcome you to the Horseheads String Family.

The time schedule is as follows:
5:30 pm   All CELLO students and parents meet on stage in the cafeteria (bring cello if you have rented one); cello measurements and paperwork for loaned instruments, finger tapes on rented cellos, introductory lesson on cello for parents and students
6:20 pm   All VIOLIN/VIOLA string parents and students with instruments meet in IS Cafeteria
                  Expectations of school year
                  Curriculum overview
                  HANDBOOK discussion
6:40 pm      Students will be excused for activities with HS orchestra students
                  Parents:  hands-on introductory lesson on violin/viola with Mrs. Matthews & Mrs. Moss
7:15 pm      Students return to cafeteria; cello families may depart;
introductory lesson with students on violins/violas
7:30 pm      Wrap-Up/Questions & Answers

As you can see, this preliminary meeting gives an enormous head start to the first year of lessons.  Please make every effort to attend.  We look forward to meeting you on September 5 and are excited to begin a new school year.

Sincerely,
