Information for Seniors
  • You will be receiving a copy of your high school transcript and your Senior Interview Sheet in the mail, which lists the graduation requirements you still need to successfully complete. Please see me immediately with any questions you may have about this information.

     
  • You need to complete or update your Student Record Sheet, and return it to my secretary. This is needed for letters of recommendations and to nominate you for awards and scholarships.

     
  • You need to continue doing career and college research. You should have a future plan upon graduation. Pay close attention to college application deadline dates, and make sure requests are made by you to the Guidance Office for records, letters of recommendation, etc. are made 10 working days prior to the application deadline. I am available to help, so don't hesitate to schedule an appointment with me, but you must make sure to plan ahead.

     
  • If you have not already taken an SAT Reasoning Test or an ACT College Admissions Test, or if you wish to challenge the test again, you need to take one this Fall. Check the admissions test websites for information and to register. The Guidance Office also has registration packets. SAT: www.collegeboard.com ACT: www.act.org
    *Be sure to include your school code (332-465) so that we may receive a copy of your scores.

     
  • College Representatives will be visiting this fall and spring. A schedule is posted in the hallway outside the Guidance Office, and announcements are made the day of the visit. If you would like to meet with a representative from a particular college, you need to have teacher permission if it is during a class period.

     
  • Scholarships are posted in the display case outside of the Guidance Office. Please check the Scholarship Board weekly as they are updated often. If you wish to apply for any scholarships that are posted , see Mrs. Kastenhuber in the Guidance Office. You can also find scholarships listed on the District Website: www.horseheadsdistrict.com under the High School Guidance section.

     
  • Financial Aid - You may be eligible for Federal, State, or college-based financial aid. To apply, you must go to www.fafsa.ed.gov and complete a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) application. Check with each college to see if they require any other forms, such as the CSS Profile, etc.

     
  • If you are planning on playing Division I or Division II athletics in college, you must register with the NCAA Clearinghouse. You will not be able to go through the recruiting process or play without this being completed. Log on to www.eligibilitycenter.org to register. You will need to print off some information to give to your counselor so that your transcript can be sent. 

     
  • SUNY College Applications are available in the Guidance Office. You can go to the SUNY Website: www.suny.edu/student for a wealth of information and also to apply. The cost is $40 per college. *If applying to any college on-line, you must print out any supplementary forms to be filled out by the Guidance Counselor. You must also fill out a Records Request Form to have transcripts and other information sent from the Guidance Office.
