Kindergarten Registration for the upcoming year will be held at Gardner Dickinson in the early Spring. Check with the main office for the exact date and the required documentation. Parents may also call to make an appointment to register their children during regular school hours on any other day following the start of registration. Children do not need to come for the registration.
Before the start of the new school year there are several opportunities for the incoming kindergarteners and their parents to get acquainted with Gardner Dickinson School, and to make the transition to kindergarten easier.
Kindergarten Orientation
This is a special orentation for kindergarten families to become familiar with Gardner Dickinson. It is a wonderful night usually held in spring time that allows the families to meet the faculty that will be working with your kindergartner.
Kindergarten Screening and Walk Through
There will be a kindergarten screening and walk through in the library. You will receive more information when the time comes. During this screening your child will be visiting various centers with other soon-to-be kindergarteners. Teachers are able to see how the students work in a group and provide individual assessments of each child. The teacher who performs the informal assessment may not be the teacher your child will have for kindergarten but will be a member of the kindergarten team on staff at Gardner Dickinson.
You and your child will also go on a tour of the school as well as visit the Kindergarten classroom to become familiar with the layout of the school and the routine of a kindergarten day.
By early-August, parents will receive a Back-To-School packet through the mail containing a letter welcoming their child to Gardner Dickinson. The first week of school will be busy. A special Open House for parents of kindergarten students will be held in September. This will provide an opportunity to meet the teacher and become familiar with the classroom and instructional program.
Kindergarten Supply Drop Off
The big event the day before the start of the school year is the Drop Off Day. This is a day for students entering kindergarten to come to the school by bus and visit the classroom, put away school supplies in cubbies and/or their desk and ask any last minute questions before the opening day of school. A bus number ID tag will be given out to wear for the first week of school to help with bus routine.
