Course Expectations

Math 8
The following information is provided to students and parents to help them become familiar with the course content and the expectations for students.
Teacher’s job:
· My course objectives are to help students master the skills of the 8th grade curriculum and help to increase their application and problem solving skills.
· I will help them be able to justify their mathematical position and help them gain confidence in their math ability.
· I will use several different teaching strategies such as guided notes, cooperative learning activities, games, and discussions.
· I will be available every day during 7th period. I can help after school if set up ahead of time.
· I will check their homework everyday by using the following guidelines:

· Classroom rules are: Be respectful, Be responsible, Be safe and Be Productive!!
· The approximate values of each assessment are as follows:
15% Warm ups/Notebook and Red Folder Checks
20% Homework average
30% Quizzes and Class work
35% Unit Tests
Student’s Job:
· Bring a writing utensil, planner, and binder to class every day
· Make good choices about behavior
· Do their homework on time-ask for help when needed
· Stay organized-put papers where they belong right away!
o Math is the red folder
o Uncompleted work goes in the left side
o Completed work/quizzes/tests go in the right side
o Notes/Classwork go after the red folder in the 3 rings
· Report to class before going to a band lesson or on a field trip
o Hand in the homework that is due
o Pick up the notes and homework for that day
· At the end of each unit after the notebook and red folder check, put the unit in a folder to be stored in the room for review before the state test(April 2013).
· Retest when something went wrong.
o All homework for the unit is done
o Corrections and explanations on the first quiz/test are done and looked over by the teacher
· Try their very best!! It is all about effort!!
