Lifeguard Training

EARN AMERICAN RED CROSS CERTIFICATIONS IN SCHOOL!

Lifeguarding, First Aid, and
CPR for the Professional Rescuer

Prerequisites: Students must be at least 15 years old by the end of the course and must pass prerequisite swimming tests given during the first week of class.

The lifeguarding course meets everyday for one semester. Students will earn 1/2 credit for Physical Education, which fulfills the yearly requirement.  The course is a mixture of 1/3 classroom instruction and 2/3 pool instruction.

Students may receive a passing grade for Physical Education and earn a college credit without receiving certfications if they do not meet the lifeguarding skill requirements throughout the semester.  For more information, please read the class syllabus.

The lifeguarding certification is good for two years.  Lifeguards in New York state must update their CPR certification every year.  It is the responsiblity of the guard to keep up with his or her own certifications and expiration dates.  See Mrs. Kramer with questions or inquiries.
