We have adopted a new English Language Arts program for the 2012-2013 year as well. As described on their website, “Treasures is a research based, comprehensive Reading Language Arts program for grades K-6 that gives educators the resources they need to help all students succeed. High quality literature coupled with explicit instruction and ample practice ensures that students grow as life-long readers and writers.” Treasures utilizes literature and informational text to focus on oral language, word study, reading, and language arts. Research and library skills will be taught to help the students realize the potentialities of the language arts learning outcomes and performance tasks. Students will engage in writing arguments to support claims, narratives to develop events, and informative/explanatory texts to analyze relevant content.
