Syllabus

Welcome to AIS/ELA! This program has been designed to connect ELA to real world settings and develop the critical thinking, reasoning, and writing skills students need to succeed in all classes. AIS/ELA classes will assist students in achieving greater success and offer skill development needed to meet NYS Learning Standards.

Course Description:
The AIS/ELA program provides students with an additional period of ELA. Students will attend an additional period of ELA once every four days. The purpose of this class is to provide students with an additional opportunity to work on applied skills and strategies that will strengthen their critical thinking and problem-solving abilities. Instruction is delivered in an engaging format which allows the students to engage in various tasks, reinforce, and demonstrate their skills and knowledge in all content areas. Students will work both individually and in groups on tasks throughout the year. The goal is to make the assignments that the student is required to complete as creative and as meaningful as possible. It is the student's responsibility to ensure that once a task is completed that it is turned into the teacher.

Curriculum:
This class is aligned with the NYS curriculum. While the topics in this class will be similar to those covered in your students' regular ELA class, they may not be covered at the same time or in the same order. The goal is to have the student focus on one or more of the key ideas found below and guide the students to reach several different performance objectives. • Narrative Writing

The student comes to class every day and is eager to learn and grow. The teacher will measure how well the student is able to demonstrate their understanding and ability to apply any new information/skill that they have obtained across content areas.
The student will strive to exhibit good communication skills with the faculty, parents, and fellow students on a manner that is appropriate for their age and maturity level. Students will demonstrate personal accountability, and strive to exhibit improved behavior as the year progresses. Students should challenge themselves to conquer greater academic deeds.
Students will be expected to be loyal, honest, and reliability within the classroom to themselves, the teacher, and their peers. The student will act with integrity.
