Hanlon Expectations

Dear Parents:

The following are the policies and procedures for your child's physical education class.

§  Every child will be participating in a wide variety of activities this year in physical education class.  They are all designed to teach the student habits for a healthy body and mind.

§  All students in Grade 5 and 6 need a change of clothing for physical education class.

o   This includes: shorts, t-shirts, sneakers and socks, sweatpants and sweatshirts in cooler weather, and swimsuits/towels during swimming. In the fall and spring, due to damp grass, students should try to have dry footwear to put on after class.

o   All clothing and sneakers can be left locked in the locker provided for them.  Locks are also provided. A student may bring in their own lock at any time, and they must be able to open it on their own.

o   If your child brings a lock that uses a key, we ask that you send in an extra copy of the key with their name on it for us to keep in our offices.  This key will be used if they forget their own copy.

§  Students in Grades 3 and 4 will only change for swimming.  During all other units, they must have sneakers on to be able to participate in class.  Girls must also be wearing pants or shorts.  If they are wearing a skirt, there must be shorts underneath.

Their physical education grade will be based on:

1.      Skills learned and demonstrated in each unit

2.      Knowledge and understanding of games and rules

3.      Participation in class

4.      Preparedness for class

5.      Class tests and homework

1.      Occasionally homework may be assigned to help your child with their knowledge and understanding of game strategies and rules.  It should be completed and returned the next class.

Rules for students not prepared for class with proper clothing, or footwear:

1.      1st time: warning/may participate (unless they are not wearing sneakers or swimwear)

2.      2nd time and every time after: grade will be effected and student will be unable to participate

Sincerely,

Mr. McCauley & Mrs. Signor
