Fifth grade kicks off the year with a high interest book:  Because of Winn Dixie, by Kate DiCamillo.  It's a heart-warming story about a young girl, her father, their newly adopted dog and their relationships with those around them.  Be sure to ask you child about this book!

Following Because of Winn Dixie, and throughout the year, your child will be selecting from a wide variety of books at his/her reading level.  S/he will continue to work in the Reader Response Journal.  We will also work on skills throughout the year.

Please encourage your child to read at home.  Reading will help him/her in all subject areas!
