Questions to answer for the Sensitivity to Touch Lab:
Don't forget: Make a graph to represent your data from the testing trials.  You only need to graph one set of data.

Follow-up Questions:

1.            Which area of your body was most sensitive?  Which area of your body was least sensitive?  Support your answer with data.

2.            Which skin areas do you think have more receptors, areas that have small two-point distances, or large two-point distances?  Why?

3.            Which area of the brain do you think is larger, one receiving information from skin with lots of receptors, or from skin with a few receptors?

4.            Why might there be differences among the people who were tested in class?  Explain your answer.

What's going on in Animal Physiology and Behavior?
Some months back -- when we first learned about animal behavior -- many people asked about animal intelligence.  So, we're taking a quick couple weeks to learn about animal intelligence.  During the unit, we'll review terms like learned behavior, instinct, ritual, and innate behavior.  In so doing, we'll actually prepare for one of our last unit of the year -- Animal Parasites!  During the parasite unit, we'll talk about parasites' impact on their animal hosts' behaviors.  We started the unit last week.  This week, we're continuing on into our mini-unit about animal intelligence.

Last week, we've viewed a NOVA ScienceNow (PBS) documentary called "How Smart Are Animals?"  It's actually available to view free on the web.  Click here if you're interested in watching it yourself.  This week, we're looking into and learning about specific examples of behaviors that indicate a higher level of intelligence in animal species other than humans, including tool-using, memory, and social interactions.  It's really neat!  We'll end this unit with an in-depth discussion based on questions that will require students to think critically and apply the knowledge that they've gained over the past two weeks.

Topics on quiz #10 include: TBA (date to be announced in class; after Spring Break)
