CLASS INFORMATION

Grade 5 Art class overview

In Grade 5 Art projects focus on creativity and expression as well as building basic drawing skills and powers of observation, color mixing and basic painting skills, and three-dimensional paper sculpture construction techniques. Some of the projects and activities students participate in include shading designs done with pencil, simple still lives of geometric forms rendered in pencil, 3D paper lizard, castle and forest sculptures, and painting projects such as a "pile of leaves" painting and simple landscapes. Many projects involve viewing and discussing Art and ideas and each project is aligned to the NYS Art Standards and the Common Core Learning Standards.

Grade 6 Art class overview
(Please note: I do not currently have grade 6 students for Art class)

In Grade 6 each project involves the study and emulation of the Art of a particular culture, time period, or famous artist from history. Each project begins with a discussion of the particular type of art the project will be dealing with. The students view images of the artwork and information about the artwork from a Power Point presentation and then complete a reading and question answering assignment. Then they make artwork based on the type of art being studied. Projects include prehistoric cave paintings, plaster African masks, ceramic Egyptian sarcophagi with plaster mummies, Japanese block prints, and Australian bark paintings. Each project involves reading and/or writing about Art and each project is aligned to the NYS Art Standards and the Common Core Learning Standards.

Many projects involve reading and/or writing about Art and each project is aligned to the NYS Art Standards and the Common Core Learning Standards.
