“Health education instills in students the knowledge and skills to examine alternatives and make responsible health-related decisions. Drawing on knowledge from the biological, environmental, psychological, social, physical, and medical sciences, health education helps students learn to prevent and manage health problems.” (NYS Standards)
 
OMCS Senior High Health Education strives to instill values of a health literate individual while following the NYS standards for health education. A health literate individual is a critical thinker and problem-solver, a responsible, productive citizen, a self-directed learner, and an effective communicator. Students are encouraged to be proactive in regards to their personal health and the health of their community. All units of study (including lessons, activities, assignments, and discussions) revolve around these basic tenants.
 
 
Areas of study include:
-         Human growth and development
-         Nutrition
-         Physical fitness
-         Alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs
-         Safety, and first aid (American Red Cross, Schools and Communities)
-         Diseases and disorders
-         Mental and Emotional health
-         HIV/AIDS
-         Bully-Proofing for High Schools, McDonald and Stoker
 
Grades:
Grading is based on all assignments, activities, and tests. Completing assignments and turning them in on time is very important.
