Course Description
High School Chorus will be a place where your personal music experience is stretched and you will grow as a musician. You will have the opportunity to sing with other High School students in a rehearsal atmosphere where Mr. Schiavone will guide you through learning a diverse body of music. This class will introduce you to basic elements of music notation, style and performance, as well as expose you to time-tested methods of vocal production. In this affirming atmosphere, your talent will be nurtured and you will have the opportunity to become a more mature and professional vocalist.

Objectives and Expectations
Students are required to come to rehearsal each day prepared for rehearsal and ready to sing. Students will learn how to warm up their voices with a variety of unique and effective warm-ups. Students will participate in the rehearsal process using basic fundamentals of good vocal production, posture and musicianship. Rehearsals will culminate with 4 performances scheduled throughout the year. Students will learn the basics of sight-reading and be able to identify music notation.
My expectations are simple; be teachable, listen, follow directions and don’t complain. I will expect the following behaviors in class:
*You will be on the risers with folders and ready to sing when class begins
*You will come in with a good attitude and be ready to do your best
*You will not talk or chew gum during rehearsals
*You will be respectful and kind to everyone in the room
*You will be respectful of the space and everything in it
*You will follow all school rules and dress codes
*You will dress appropriately for chorus concerts (details to follow)
In addition to affecting your grade, the consequences for failing to adhere to these expectations will vary based on the degree of the offense.

Communication
Mr. Schiavone will communicate using several methods throughout the year. First, emails will be used to communicate with parents, and will be checked regularly if parents wish to contact me. Second, I will update my website often throughout the year, and use it as a means to make announcements and post pertinent information. There will also be a chorus Facebook group which will only consist of chorus members and parents in order to post important announcements and updates.
Folders
Students will be given their own folder at the beginning of the year. Students will keep all of their music in their folder along with a pencil to mark their music. Students will not be permitted to take music out of the music room. Students will also be responsible for their own folders and music including retrieving them and putting them away. ** Any materials that are lost will be billed to students at the end of the year. **

Concerts
Concert attendance is mandatory for all chorus students. According to district policy, students will lose 50% of their grade for the marking period if they are not in attendance. Only legal absences will be accepted with a note from a parent.

Concert dress is the unified district-wide. For each concert, students are required to wear black on bottom and white on top. No jeans, flip-flops, sneakers or heels exceeding 2 inches. The 2018-2019 concert schedule may be found on the district calendar
