COURSE DESCRIPTION
          Students will dive into the world of musical theater. We will learn about the history, composers, structure, stories, vocabulary, and music of musical theater. Students will be expected to develop their sense of history and critical writing skills by creating accurate synopses of certain musicals. As a part of this class, we will be watching a variety of music theater examples which are the best examples of each genre and time period. Our choices will vary greatly, and the MPAA rating will range from G to R. I am asking for parental permission to view these videos under my supervision. Explicit scenes will be censored by the teacher.
EXPECTATIONS
My expectations are simple; be teachable, listen, follow directions and don’t complain. I will expect the following behaviors in class:
          *You will come in with a good attitude and be ready to do your best
                *You will not talk or chew gum during class
                *You will be respectful and kind to everyone in the room
                *You will be respectful of the space and everything in it, including instruments
                *You will follow all school rules and dress codes
GRADING
            Students will receive a numerical grade on their progress reports. Grading will be determined based on the following rubric:
                        60% - Class work, discussions, participation
                        20% - Group work, Final Project
                        20% - Written assignments, handouts
